How One San Diego Senior Found Hope, Friends, and Full Medical Care at St. Paul’s PACE

When Patricia, first walked through the doors of St. Paul’s PACE, she wasn’t sure she belonged. But something happened. She stayed. She met people. She talked, laughed, and little by little, let others in.
It’s a feeling many older adults can relate to. Starting something new can feel overwhelming, especially when you’ve been living independently or spending much of your time at home. But with the right support and community, something new doesn’t have to be something scary.
“When you get together with other people and you lift each other up,” she says, “it brings back hope. That’s why I Iike this place.”
Over the past year and a half, St. Paul’s PACE has become much more than a place for medical care. It has become a place where Patricia has found friendship, encouragement, and hope.
“The day center is wonderful; the day center is great.”
Just as important as medical care is the opportunity to stay connected.
For many older adults, loneliness and isolation can have a significant impact on both physical and emotional health. St. Paul’s PACE day center gives participants a welcoming space to build relationships, enjoy activities, and spend time with others who understand their experiences.
St. Paul’s PACE is a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly serving San Diego County seniors 55 and older. Medical care, home care, transportation, physical therapy, it’s all included, all coordinated, all designed so seniors can stay safely at home.
