St. Paul’s PACE
Physical Therapy

As we age, sometimes our bodies encounter physical challenges that we never expected. If you’re experiencing a physical obstacle as a result of aging, injury, surgery, or illness, our caring and experienced professionals at St. Paul’s PACE can help you reach your maximum independence so you can remain living at home.

Throughout San Diego County, St. Paul’s PACE offers comprehensive physical rehabilitation programs with physical, speech, and occupational therapy. St. Paul’s PACE therapists help seniors by developing a specialized program to restore mobility, reduce pain, and increase overall fitness levels.

How it Works

As part of your St. Paul’s PACE health plan, your care team may determine that physical therapy will be beneficial to maintaining your independence. Physical therapy and occupational therapy can help restore movement and function, helping you achieve maximum functional independence and give you the necessary skills for ”living life to its fullest.”

Physical therapists evaluate, diagnose, and treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system with the ultimate goal of restoring maximal independence. Occupational therapists help improve your ability to perform daily living tasks. Speech therapists evaluate and treat speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders.

Physical therapy, along with occupational therapy, provides you with the means to improve your mobility, whether recovering from an injury or affected by illness or disease. The more your mobility can be restored, the more you can do on your own with less pain and discomfort.

St. Paul’s PACE Wellness Centers in San Diego

A number of factors determine which center you will attend, including your preference, your home location, and your unique needs. St. Paul’s PACE provides transportation for you to come to the center. How often you come in will depend upon your specific care plan set up by our care team.

Our senior day centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but St. Paul’s PACE medical emergency support operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, so there is always someone available to help in the event of an emergency.

Participants will be assigned to one of our four Wellness Centers based on their preference and proximity to the location.

The Benefits of St. Paul’s PACE Physical Therapy

Our trained therapists at St. Paul’s PACE may also come to your home to see if you would benefit from durable medical equipment such as grab bars, shower chairs, or other safety equipment. With the approval of your care team, we will install any necessary equipment to ensure you are as safe as possible in your home.

Each St. Paul’s PACE day center has a large therapy room where seniors receive their physical and occupational therapy. When you have an appointment, the therapist will come to the day center and bring you to the therapy room. There is even a designated room where you can practice activities of daily living with your therapist.

As with all PACE provided services, therapy is provided for seniors as needed and determined by your care team.

Let Us Help You

At St. Paul’s PACE, we provide physical therapy as a preventative measure for maintaining your independence, not just a reactionary measure. We want to make sure seniors can stay living safely in their own homes for as long as possible.

Our staff is specially trained in senior rehabilitation therapies, so you can feel confident in knowing your treatment is the best plan for your physical improvement. Let us help you live the best life possible.

There are certain conditions that come into play as people get older, which may inhibit their ability to be fully mobile:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Arthritis
  • Balance Issues
  • Cancer
  • Hip & Joint Replacement
  • Osteoporosis & More

By addressing these issues in the right physical therapy program, you can increase your mobility in a healthy, supervised way. Eventually, physical therapy can enable your muscles to grow stronger, help your body to become more limber, and gain greater control over what you can physically do. Imagine having more independence and doing personal chores by yourself again. That’s what occupational and physical therapy can do for you.
