History of the Roving Clinic
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Paul’s PACE quickly implemented multiple solutions to bring care to homebound patients as safely as possible. In an effort to limit COVID-19 exposure, St. Paul’s PACE converted one of their passenger vans into a makeshift mobile clinic and started making house calls. After seeing the mobile clinic’s positive impact on our PACE participants, St. Paul’s medical team decide to take things a step further.
With help from the community, St. Paul’s raised the funds to develop a custom, state-of-the-art Roving Clinic designed specifically for homebound participants. This mobile clinic is fully equipped with the tools needed to care for seniors out in the community when they cannot come in to our centers.
The first Roving Clinic was generously donated by Dick and Dorothea Laub, who were so inspired by the innovation of this clinic-on-wheels that they underwrote the entire cost of the first vehicle.

Community Outreach Opportunity: ‘Roving’ Around San Diego!
St. Paul’s PACE is proud to offer community outreach services with the help of our PACE Roving Clinic. Our team of professionals can come out to your senior center, senior living community or community event to provide a variety of services including:
- Blood pressure checks
- Fall risk assessments
- Vaccines
- Educational presentations and literature
- And more, just ask!
To book the roving clinic at your site or event, please contact Michael Wilson at mwilson@stpaulspace.org. We are happy to serve our community in this way!
Telehealth Care: Virtual Doctor Appointments for Seniors
Telehealth care is not a new concept for St. Paul’s PACE, but in an effort to adapt to the needs of seniors during the pandemic, we have implemented new telehealth systems and services. Our physicians and healthcare providers offer medical appointments by phone and by video conferencing.
This gives our participants accessible options to communicate with their healthcare providers without leaving the comfort of their own homes. During the pandemic, this has provided our seniors with peace of mind knowing they can get the care they need without risking their health and safety.
